got some things to get off my chest....bear with me, i'm not a good writer and i dont have any pictures to accompany this
the main goal, at least as far as i'm concerned, for this collective is to contribute something to the arts community. lately, i haven't felt like i've had anything to contribute though, and with that comes a feeling that i might have just wasted the last 4 years of my life at college. With self-depricating aside, i think it's time to review why this blog and collective were started in the first place: our goal was to individualize ourselves through means of creative expression. first and foremost that was the main thing everyone felt was crucial; making an identity for themselves through their respective work. however, this is always a bit harder than it seems seeing as how there is literally an ocean of like-minded people out there trying their best to do the same thing. what do we do? do we distance ourselves from them or join together and try to come up collectively? we made that choice. we would band together three kids that knew each other from riding skateboards, and along the way add other people that we saw fit what we were trying to do, luckily we've found at least one. the problem now is trying to distance ourselves from the rest of the artist population and have an identity that is our own. in the city i live in, the current "art scene" is comprised mostly of middle aged women who bought a paint set and the occasional kid trying to be "unique" and "express themselves" via means of half-assed products with little or no intrinsic value. i won't single anyone out or name names, but if you pick up on some familiar descriptions, so be it....
the thing that upsets me most about the current state of art in roanoke, and for many other small towns for that matter, is that a lot of the proponents for it are promoting art in the wrong way. i dont want to criticize the city for putting up an art museum, i think it was a wonderful idea, but why so much space for so little work inside? there was years of hype leading up to this, and the day it finally opened, i was right there in line, only to be utterly disappointed by the lack of quality and quantity i was expecting. and it's not just the actions the city takes that makes me disheartened, it's also the people. just because you have a public arts display downtown and someone gets arrested doesnt constitute it's validity as art. just because some wanna-be "graff writer" gets permission to paint a building doesnt mean our city has an "urban arts scene." none of these things in and of themselves mean anything. instead of riding a bike 6 months to promote yourself, why dont you work with the local government to convert part of the city to alternative energy? a lot of my friends dont drive cars, espescially for longer than 6 months, and you dont see them getting a museum.
obviously our values and opinions on what contemporary art should be differs fron the residents of our city. but the point of the collective, the point of the blog, the point of everything we do is to raise awareness about this. why should we sit in the dark while everyone else gets the attention? so we decided to have an art show. and then another one. hopefully this will at least influence someone to do the same thing. there's so much backward thinking here, and this city has the potential to be so much greater, so we're going to keep on doing this until that happens. even if no one else cares.

After a too-long haitus, we've decided to reinstate this blog. It's been a few months and everyone has gone through some changes; some good, some bad, but all for the better. As far as Bjoranges is concerned, we're back and we've got changes of our own. Things are being planned for the near future to pick up where we left off in Fubruary, which for everyone who doesn't know, was a collective show we hosted at the Water Heater. More shows are being taken into consideration, and we hope to have more on that in the upcoming weeks. Until then, though, we will continue to update this site, as well as trying to create more avenues of networking pages. Thanks to everyone who helped out and supported our endeavours to this point, and check back on the regular to see updates, videos, rants, and all around cool-guy stuff.

I deleted my Facebook, Beastival Fuckery, my flickr, and other forms of internet bullshit. Seriously, i recommend everyone follow me in this. It wastes your time and effort for when you could actually be keeping in touch with people that really matter to you. Half of the people on facebook are either: people you do keep in touch with and the site has a valid reason, people you know but don't REALLY know, people you graduated with or went to high school with that you would rather forget, people really don't know why you are associated with them in any way shape or form, people you would rather forget, people you are sexually intrested in and added them because you are a pervert, or people who may happen to be family or some other really awkward relation. Seriously, Facebook/Myspace is the most vile specimen of shit that could ever be thought of. In the listed above of people you are friends with on facebook, the real people who you are friends with and want to keep in contact with, you should be able to call them and let them hear your fucking voice and keep a relationship alive with personal aspects like that. Right now you dont know how i feel or if i have a soar throat or not. Fuck no you dont, because this right here can't possibly touch you personally in any way. Facebook/ Myspace is filled with gossip/two faced/be my friend for another number/ads make more money/ obama won thanks to facebook groups/ignorant shit talking/immature fucks who don't have enough personality to get off a fucking computer to talk to people. Seriously, wake up. Delete your stupid fucking facebook page that you check a million times a day and use that time more productivly doing things that really matter. Pat's been running it solo for awhile but since i've moved to Richmond i've had the opportunities to take alot of pictures of friends and happenings. this morning i was hired at maymont to do what i did at home, but get paid for it now. which is shoveling up horse shit and other farm activities.

after that i rode home and got sandwiched between a parked car and a car trying to pull straight into a parallel parking spot. i broke off the mirror with my arm flipped onto the hood then rolled a bit, tangled up with my bike. when i broke off the side mirror a knife like end was left on the car and when i flipped my right bicep went straight into it. rode in an ambulace to mcv, lay in a bed next to a 43 yr old bitch that got in a bar fight 4 nights ago. was there for about 4 hours until being told i wasnt getting stiches or anything at all because the sharp plastic from the car just puncherd in and down my arm. my phone also died during this time so i got to walk back 16 blocks to my house with a sling. puuuuuuumped.

I've been missing one of my cat's for quite some time now. When i was 5 out family got 3 cats from a neighbor, these being Flash, Tricky, and Max. Max was mine. She gave birth to 3 kittens a couple years later, Blackberry, Garfield, and Adventure. Today I came home and found her body mauled and chewed up in my front yard. This may be kinda lame for some of you that i'm posting about the life of my cat, but i'm pretty bummed.
